Typhoon Krathon resulted in unstable power supply shutting down nearly 10 petchem plants in Kaohsiung

About 10 petrochemical companies in two industrial zones in Kaohsiung were shut down due to typhoon Krathon and a related power supply issue. The petrochemical plants that were affected are located in the Linyuan Industrial Zone and Taisha Industrial Zone in Kaohsiung.  In Linyuan, the production of chemicals such as EG, PS, ABS, PE, VCM, MTBE, and SM is affected. In Taisha the products impacted include PE, AN, PP. VAM, SM, PS, and ABS.

Industry insiders expect that the shutdown may take several days before it can gradually return to normal.  It is also estimated that the daily operating losses of the upstream and downstream petrochemical plants may be in the hundreds of millions of NT$.
