Taiwan may boost U.S. imports with focus on LNG

Taiwan is considering increasing its liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from the US from 10% to 30% to help reduce the bilateral trade deficit. Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei said this shift is part of a broader plan involving state-backed purchases. In March, Taiwan’s state-run energy supplier signed a letter of intent to buy LNG from Alaska. Currently, most of Taiwan’s LNG comes from Australia and Qatar. The move is seen as a strategic step to strengthen US-Taiwan trade ties amid ongoing tariff tensions.
