MOL expects LNG demand growth shift from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan to SEA, India, and plans LNG fleet expansion

Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, or MOL, the world’s largest operator of LNG carriers, expects to expand investment in its LNG businesses and boost its super-chilled fuel carrier fleet to around 150 vessels by 2030. The CEO of MOL focuses on the energy transition and confirmed his view that LNG demand growth will shift from mature markets such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to Southeast Asia, India and South America.

The company is operating about 100 LNG ships today, will increase the total fleet to 140 ships by around 2028 or 2029, and maybe even reach 150 ships by 2030.
