
India’s crude oil import dependence is set to reach a record high in FY 2024/25, exceeding 88% due to rising fuel demand and stagnant domestic production. The country, now the world’s largest oil demand driver, is expanding refinery capacity but remains vulnerable to price shocks. To secure affordable supplies, India continues to import discounted Russian oil, despite Western sanctions.
