IMO formulates global strategy for maritime digitalization

The IMO is developing a global maritime digitalization strategy, set for implementation by 2028. Central to the plan is cybersecurity, aimed at protecting digital maritime operations and maritime single windows (MSWs) from evolving online threats. During the March 2025 FAL 49 meeting, a work plan was outlined to create an interconnected and automated global maritime sector. A correspondence group will define the strategy’s scope, objectives, and technologies, with input from IMO committees and international organizations. The final strategy will be presented to the IMO Assembly in late 2027.
