The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB), under Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), is responsible for regulating and developing the maritime and port sectors. Its key functions include drafting maritime and port-related laws, policies, and development plans; overseeing the shipping industry, vessels, maritime labor, training institutions, and commercial port operations; managing international maritime cooperation and maritime order; ensuring vessel inspection, registration, and navigation safety; supervising maritime labor licensing and training; regulating maritime affairs and piloting services; overseeing commercial ports, free trade zones, and public port infrastructure; managing aids to navigation; and implementing international maritime conventions, regulations, and standards.
